library girlSolutions, etc. is dedicated to helping teachers become more creative, more inspiring and more effective. We believe that in order to teach children the facts and skills of education, you must first win them over and inspire them. We have gathered, and in some cases created, various resources to help teachers reach this goal.

7 habits

coach
love and logic
Encourage your students to become the best they can be. From the creators of the 7 Habits of Highly Effective People.

Educators can’t MAKE a young person do anything, the same way Sea World trainers can’t MAKE a 10,000 pound killer whale do anything. Learn from Sea World trainers how to motivate others toward positive actions through building relationships and by redirecting behaviors. While this book was written for the business world, its ideas are ideally suited to the high school classroom.
Inspirational stories and quotes about success from a man who reached the pinnacle of his profession. Includes the famous PYRAMID OF SUCCESS!
One of the very best books ever written for teachers. Learn how to foster the relationships and the environment that leads to classroom success. All based on classroom experience - no "theories" here. This book will change the way you relate to young people!

These movies are ones that we at Solutions, etc. use and reference in many of our presentations. Use them to inspire students directly or to "fill your tank" so that you can inspire.

opus
mighty
dreams
camelot
Learn from Mr. Holland's experience the power of aiming for a student's heart instead of just for the head. Mr. Holland begins his career having no idea how to inspire. By the end, he has learned the power of a teacher and has touched the lives of countless individuals. Every teacher should watch this movie at least once a month!
The Mighty is a movie about the power of believing and the power it has to transform us. Max Kane failed the seventh grade twice and believes he is dumb. Kevin Dill was born crippled. Kevin teaches Max how to read, and Max lends his legs to Kevin. This movie reminds us that sometimes students don't do well because of false belief systems. When the belief system is changed, miracles can occur. Make sure you have a good supply of hankies.
Field of Dreams is about choices and investing. From the time Ray Kinsella hears The Voice say, "If you build it, he will come" through the other messages to "ease his pain" and "go the distance", Ray consistently works and risks for others. At the end, he learns that he has created a "heaven on earth" by saying yes to life and to others. Teach your students about the importance of serving.
King Arthur is the universal hero. He came into a world of chaos and brought a new way of living based on justice. He changed the law of the land from "Might is Right" to "Might for Right". Betrayed by those he loved most, King Arthur resolved to defeat his own passion for revenge. Our students need images of manhood that go beyond the simple macho stereotype presented in our society.
