We live in an increasingly technological society. More and more of our daily practices and routines are being supported through new technologies. Education is no different. While there is still and never will be any substitute for an excellent teacher, a proper and appropriate use of technology can make an excellent teacher even more effective.

One of the easiest and yet most appreciated and effective uses of technology is for a teacher to have his or her own webpage. Several years ago creating a webpage took an immense amount of technological knowledge. However, new programs have made creating a personal webpage as simple as using a word processor. These new programs have made the possibility of all teachers having their own websites a reality.

Why would a teacher want or need their own website? The answer to that question lies solely in the imagination of the teacher. Imagine this:

* When your students are absent they are able to go on your website and find out their homework.
* IEP students are able to download notes that they weren't able to copy in class.
* Parents are able to keep up with their child's assignments by visiting your website.
* New students are able to go back and catch up on the material covered before they came to your class.
* Resource teachers are better able to help your students because they can keep up with work online.
* Parents no longer call you at home. Instead they email you from the link on your website.
* Homebound instructors are able to download assignments from your website.
* Your students can get to know and appreciate you better as a person by viewing the personal information you include on your site.
* Students and parents both lose the excuse of "the teacher didn't do enough to help me."
* Students are able to use the links on your site as a starting point for research papers.

For these reasons and many others, a website is a beneficial tool when placed in the hands of a creative teacher. Solutions, etc. has been designing webpages and helping others learn to do so for nearly a decade. Whatever you level of technological expertise, Solutions, etc. can help you look like a tech expert.
